Brian Finnegan
Flute and Whistle

Brian has taught at Burwell every year since 1994, and now he also helps with the direction of the course. He is a very popular tutor - many students come back every year to benefit from his tuition, which is second to none.

Brian is one of the most technically inventive and imaginative of flute/whistle players to have emerged from Ireland in recent years. From Armagh, Brian's well recognised abilities in traditional Irish music are often blended with folk music from other traditions. A founder member of the hugely popular, ground breaking folk band Flook!, Brian is an experienced, relaxed and talented teacher and you don't have to read a note, just bring an ear! Flook's album Rubai was voted Folk Album of the Year and Brian was voted Male Musician of the Year by LiveIreland.com and the Irish American News.Flook's latest album, Haven has been nominated for Album of the Year

Norman Chalmers, The List:

'He stands out, in a nation of wonderful flute players, as much more than a technical virtuoso, his playing having the freewheeling lightness of touch and inspired musical understanding that flows into improvisation in real time, at reel speed.'
