Ed Boyd
Guitar and Bouzouki

Ed first taught at Burwell in 1998 and stunned us with his group's performance in the concert. We are delighted to welcome him back yet again, after the fun we had last year!

Ed Boyd is one of the most sought-after guitarists on the folk music scene today, both in the UK and in Ireland. His playing has been a major force behind the success of the mighty Flook with whom he has played for the past 10 years. He is also a member of Michael McGoldrick's big band, and he has toured with Sharon Shannon and The Bumblebees, to name but a few. He plays the guitar, bouzouki and mandolin, but on this course will teach anyone with a similar stringed instrument.

Ed isn't just a backer of tunes, he is also a great tune player, and so his class at Burwell will touch on pretty much everything that a guitarist might need in their repertoire, including standard and DADGAD tuning. This is a rare opportunity for any guitarists out there to spend time with this inspiring and brilliant musician.

Irish Music Magazine:

'... A lot more than your traditional rhythm guitarist. His fingerpicking became complex at times, but he always retained a clear, bell-like tone which one seldom hears on a steel strung guitar'

More about Ed

After founding the Kershaw favourites Red Ciel, Ed joined the ground breaking folk band, Flook, and is now internationally recognised and admired.

Flook's latest album Haven Haven has recently been nominated for Folk Album of the Year by the BBC. Rubai, the previous album was Number One in Irish Music Magazine's Dublin charts (October 2002) and the band have been nominated for BEST GROUP in the BBC Folk Awards 2006.
