Brian Finnegan - Flute and Whistle
Brian has taught at the Bash since it's beginings. He is widely regarded as one of the true pioneers in Irish music.
Front man with the legendary Flook for over 13 years, this maverick flute and tin whistle player has toured the world and recorded three highly acclaimed studio albums, Flatfish, Rubai and Haven, with the band. Collecting awards and a huge fan base wherever they toured, Flook were crowned BBC Band Of The Year 2006.
More recently Brian has been touring with his new quartet KAN and working on a multitude of other projects. He released his new solo album, The Ravishing Genius of Bones in 2010 to critical acclaim.
Brian has a wealth of experiance teaching with regular appearances at Folkworks Summer School, Meitheal Summer School and The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick as well as running numerous workshops at festivals.
He will offer an in depth look at his playing, breaking down ornamentation, breathing and phrasing.

Jock Tydsley - Fiddle
Jock has been the fiddle tutor at Burwell since 2008. He is perhaps best known for his fiddling in Cajun bands such as The Flatville Aces and the Bearcats, as well as more off-the-wall antics with The New Rope String Band and The Chipolatas.
He also nurtures a long-time passion for Southern Appalachian old time fiddling for many years and has spent more time concentrating on this, whilst touring worldwide with his regular bands and US acts such as Eddie LeJeune, The Dirk Powell Band, Martha Scanlan and many more.
He is much in demand as a private and workshop tutor and has also taught for several years at Folkworks Summer School as well as being a visiting tutor at Blazin' in Beauly, The London Fiddle School and the Folk Degree course at Newcastle University, plus many international festival workshops.
Jock is an instinctive tutor, teaching by ear and concentrating on the feel and rhythm of the music as much as the tune, and trying to bring out the 'drive' in peoples' playing.

Sam Pirt - Piano Accordion
Sam has been our hugely popular Accordion tutor since 2003. As well as teaching accordion Sam ensures there is never a dull moment.
A founder member of the award-winning band 422, Sam scooped top honours at the BBC Young Folk Awards in 1999. He then went on to showcase with 422 on the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival and to perform at the prestigious Tonder festival in Denmark.
Sam continues to tour with 422. More recently Sam been recording and touring with his newest project The Hut People provding British, Nordic and European folk with world music influenced percussion.
Sam has a wealth of experience tutoring with regular appearances at Folk Works Summer School, The Cambridge Folk Festival, Accordions at Witney and many festivals accross the UK.
Sam teaches a range of tunes from his vast repertoire of melodies and styles. Sam is particularly revered for the use of his left (chord) hand on this instrument.

Ed Boyd - Guitar
Ed Boyd is one of the most sought-after guitarists on the folk music scene today, both in the UK and in Ireland. His playing has been a major force behind the success of the mighty Flook with whom he played with for 13 years.
More recently Ed has released an album with Celtic-Bluesgrass band The Scoville Units and continues to play with a multitude of bands including Cara Dillon, the Mike McGoldrick Band and Guidewires.
Ed is in huge demand the world over as a tutor, running workshops regulary at festivals in the UK and across Europe.
Ed isn't just a backer of tunes, he is also a great tune player, and so his class at Burwell will touch on pretty much everything that a guitarist might need in their repertoire including his tuning of choice, DADGAD..

Lizzy Doe - Assistant Fiddle
Lizzy was originally a student on the course who went on to be awarded a degree from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick. She has performed across Europe with the Imogen Gunner band and with guitarist Joe Bardwell. She is currently working on her debut album of folk-influenced compositions.
Katherine Mann - Assistant Flute
Katherine was originally a student on the course and has gone on to become All-Ireland Champion in 2002 with the South Birmingham Grupai Cheoil. Katherine has a wealth of festival credits and now plays regularly with bands in the Bristol area. She has taught at Burwell Bash since 2005 and has also been a resident tutor at the Boghill Centre in Co. Clare.
